Weekend Hike

How was your weekend? We had a really great one - first of all because Daddy, who had planned on working on Saturday, decided to stay home because he "likes eating a special breakfast as a family on Saturdays." How great is that?! After pancakes and coffee (adults only, of course) we headed to Penetencia Creek to go for a hike. Here I am rocking our awesome old-school purple baby backpack, complete with kick-stand.

It was a gorgeous day - so nice to be outside after being cooped up due to lots and lots of rain. Titus' favorite part was the meadow of wildflowers we found. He could have sat there for an hour touching them. We found puddles to jump in, hills to run up and fall down, and even built a bridge across the creek using logs and rocks. I love that feeling of getting back into the car all wet, muddy, hungry, and happy.

In a season where money is tight it was wonderful to have a super fun family outing that cost us nothing. We're hoping to do lots more budget friendly activities as "winter" eases into spring. How about you - any family activities to share?

Toy Exchange

Here's a fun, earth-friendly, easy-on-the-budget, wonderful thing to do with your friends: have a toy exchange! I recently did this with the other moms in my Bible study and it was awesome! We each brought a few toys in good condition that our kids don't play with any more. Of course, as soon you decide upon the perfect toy that your kids won't miss, they will fall in love with it again, so the best strategy is to squirrel the unloved toys away after kids are in bed. We compiled all the toys, drew numbers, and took turns picking out "new" ones. I suppose you could do this White Elephant style, too, which would make things a bit more exciting. Having the kids there would make things more exciting too, but probably in a different way. We opted to do it sans kids. I'm wrapping up our "new" toys and putting them under the tree for Titus and don't feel a bit guilty about it - he doesn't care that they were free!

Giveaway!!!

I haven't done a giveaway for a long time, and now my mistake is about to become your fabulous free blanket. I made this awesome security blanket without realizing that a tiny bit of the blue dye in the print had bled and left a faint streak down one side of the blanket. I tried taking a picture of the streak but it wouldn't show up on camera - it's really faint. BUT, I can't justify selling it in my shop, so I'm going to give it away. I promise you'll love it, streak and all! Just leave a comment on this post by the end of the week (March 28'th) and I'll draw a name at random and send it to you!

April Give Away

This little beauty has been in the shop for a while... waiting to be bought. But I have since "discontinued" this style of security blanket (for now) and made them a bit bigger, so I decided to use this as April's give away. Isn't it cute?!?!? You could use this for a boy OR a girl, and the back is the silkiest brown minkee EVER. So leave a comment on ANY post this month and you will be automatically entered in the random drawing at the end of the month.

And the Winner is...

... Lauren (aka Nancy the former professional opera singer) - my dear cyber friend, most faithful blog commenter, and the owner of Sweet Bean's, where you can buy the world's best diaper rash remedy. Check out her shop and check out her blogs - you will learn something! I'm so happy you won this month's giveaway Lauren! :)

This picture is of a stack of fat quarters I just bought. I know buying small cuts of overpriced fabric isn't very business-savvy, but I just can't help myself when I see dots and stripes! You'll be seeing these prints worked into my shop soon. Stay tuned for this month's giveaway...
