Goat Birthday Party

Lest you begin to think we are high-brow around here after my last post, I thought I'd share what we did after we got home from our weekend at the W in San Francisco. We went to a goat's birthday party. Yep. Little Man turned one, and we were invited - got an invitation in the mail and everything. Of course we brought a gift - Saltines would have been better, but Ritz crackers are a close second when it comes to goat gifts. Here is Moses presenting the birthday boy with his present.

Little Man was a very gracious host - he even shared his birthday cake with his Aunt Angelina and allowed his other goat friends to eat the decorations. We weren't the only guests, either. All of the other "hill people" (that's what we humans call ourselves up here) came bearing gifts as well. The only snafoo occurred when Lamb Chop (who is MUCH bigger than Little Man and Angelina) decided to take a running charge at Moses, who went flying into a shed, banging up his elbow pretty good. Maybe she was jealous or something, but I sure was tempted to turn her name into something a little more literal. Ah, home... :)

Happy Half Birthday

What - you don't celebrate your half birthday? Well, your real birthday must not be 7 days before Christmas. Perhaps your real birthday is in the summer, and you have two exciting events to look forward to throughout the year: your birthday and Christmas, rather than the two just blending together. Your real birthday party has probably never been rained out or held in the dark even though it is only 4 pm. Your piñata candy probably hasn't fallen into a puddle of rain water. You have probably never had the Noro Virus during your real birthday party because your party is not held at the peak of flu season. If you had experienced these real birthday woes, you would definitely have started celebrating your half birthday by now.

Just in case you decide to start, I have to tell you that no half birthday celebration is complete without half of a birthday cake and 4 1/2 candles (or however old you are). Oh, and a kite from your Aunt Cindy makes things even better. Just in case you decide to start. :)

Birthday Party

Last Saturday we had Moses' 4 year old birthday party and it was a big success. The night before Brett and I made 24 "gingerbread houses" (graham crackers, really) after the kids went to bed. I had been dreading it, but it turned into a really fun silly activity, especially since we hadn't bought enough crackers and were trying to build structures while conserving every last broken shred of building material. Mine almost looked like houses, while all of Brett's looked like bunkers. (Don't mind the mess in the background, my shoddy attempt at Christmas decorating, or the pants hanging on the chair to dry...)

Moses came up with the idea to use the candy from the piñata to decorate the houses. I have to admit that I pictured a huge disaster of sugar-crazed children, candy wrappers, and frosting exploding all over the dining room, and tried to refuse, but Brett came to Moses' rescue and the two of them convinced me to let it happen. I'm glad I did - the children LOVED it and they all spent a long time decorating, even the younger ones.

The houses looked so cute and festive! It was a fun, simple party, and a great way to begin the last week before Christmas.
